Dynamically adding and removing dedicated Concourse workers

Here at Cycloid, we use open-source pipeline engine Concourse in Kubernetes. Over time, we noticed a problem – every time we wanted to add a new worker (in Concourse, the worker is the entity responsible for executing the scheduler’s operations), the process seemed long and inefficient. We decided to see if we could improve it by contributing to Concourse.

Here at Cycloid we can’t, but that’s not really the pandemic’s fault – we’ve been doing work in our pyjamas… I mean, from home since the start.

Cycloid is and always has been remote-first. With the avalanche of recent remote-working resources out there, we’re not offering any special advice. Instead, we’re telling you about our remote journey and sharing the things we’ve learned along the way.

A teal organization in a DevOps world

Tonight was supposed to be a big night for the Cycloid team. We turn 5 today and, unlike other 5-year-olds, we planned to celebrate in a swanky Paris venue, partying the night away. Like the rest of the world, however, our party plans have been put on hold, and if we celebrate our 5th birthday at all today, it will be by raising a toast from the comfort of our (respective and separate) living rooms.
