Port vs. Cycloid

Compare the two self-service portals

Port is an Internal Developer Portal designed to provide a Software Catalog to developers with Self-Service provisioning capabilities. The portal standardizes processes across multiple clouds with application lifecycle management, provisioning, and access control. The Developer Portal Interface is flexible and allows developers to design their own portal while integrating their insights, reports, and scorecards.

Cycloid sustainable platform engineering promotes efficient infrastructure & software delivery, alongside FinOps & Green IT practices. It combines self-service portal, orchestration, project lifecycle, resources management, and FinOps/GreenOps capabilities in one platform. Cycloid enhances developer experience and operational efficiency by simplifying tool and cloud use and reducing support tickets. It supports change management and democratizes hybrid cloud and DevOps, offering customizable governance and flexibility. The platform is tool and cloud-agnostic, based on Git.

While Port is a flexible solution with plugin integration, it can seem unstructured and take time to configure. The separation between blueprints and self-service actions makes automation complex. Regarding FinOps capabilities, Port integrates with OpenCost for Kubernetes cost estimates and project cost views, however, it lacks native cloud provider billing support and cannot function as a full FinOps tool.
